Getting Started With Your New Mask
If you have been prescribed positive airway pressure (PAP) therapy to treat your sleep apnea, you'll have to get used to the PAP machine. The PAP machine will gently blow air into your airway to prevent it from closing. It will use a mask to deliver the air through your nose and/or mouth.

Don't worry and don't panic. Classic Sleep Care's team will work with patiently to fit the best and most comfortable mask. We supply masks of various styles and sizes from all major manufacturers, including Respironics, Resmed, Fisher Paykel and Puritan Bennett, as illustrated below.

The mask is the most critical part of the PAP system. Selecting the right mask to fit your facial structure is the key to the success of the PAP treatment.

There are two basic types of mask systems:

	Nasal mask systems that are used by most PAP patients. These masks cover only the nose to provide the pressure support.
	A full face mask that is used only by patients who breathe through their mouths and do not tolerate nasal masks.

If you are a new patient, our respiratory therapist will fit you with the most effective and comfortable sleep mask possible. It will take you some time to get used to the new equipment (the first month is usually the most difficult time) and it will take a while until you'll realize the great benefits of PAP therapy. During the adaptation process you may need to be refitted with a new mask to gain a higher level of comfort that will allow you to stay on the therapy.
